Conditions of
Eligibility
Awarded in recognition of non-operational service under conditions
of hardship and severe climate in specified areas.
An individual qualifying for the medal for the first time shall be
awarded the medal, together with a clasp on which shall be inscribed
the place where the service was rendered. On all subsequent
occasions when the award is made only a clasp indicating the place
where the service was rendered shall be awarded.
Eligible Categories
Commissioned Officers, Junior Commissioned Officers, Other Ranks and
Non-Combatants (enrolled) of the regular Army, embodied Auxiliary
and Reserve Forces or any other lawfully constituted Armed Forces.
Nursing Officers and other members of Nursing Services in the Armed
Forces.
Design of the Medal and Ribbon
Medal. Circular in shape, made of cupro-nickle, 35 mm in
diameter and fitted to a plain horizontal bar with standard fitting.
It shall have embossed on its obverse an outline of “NANDA DEVI”
Peak in the background with a clump of bamboo in the foreground. On
reverse it shall have an Indian Fort and the inscription “ “
embossed along the upper rim.
Ribbon. 32 mm in width and shall be saffron in colour with
two vertical stripes of white and dark green dividing the ribbon
into three equal parts. |
