Directorate General of Perspective Planning

The Directorate General of Perspective Planning (DG PP) is the Think Tank of Indian Army. The Directorate is primarily responsible for development of military strategic options, covering the perspective horizon, threat assessment and technological forecast in conjunction with all concerned external and internal agencies; and formulating Army’s perspective plans.

An officer of the rank of a Lieutenant General heads the Directorate and is assisted by the Additional Director General. The Directorate is divided into following six sections each headed by a Brigadier, based on their areas of specialisation :

o Strategic Studies Section (Strat).

o Technology and Weapon System Section (T & WS).

o Plans Section (PLANS) and Space Cell.

o Chemical, Biological , Radiological and Nuclear Section (CBRN).

o Operational Research and System Analysis Section (ORSA).

o Coord Section.

The Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), New Delhi, is an autonomous think tank on Strategic Studies and land warfare functioning under the aegis of PP Directorate.
