INDIAN ARMY SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTED
JOINT INDO-KYRGYZ ARMY MOUNTAINEERING EXPEDITION TO MT JOGIN III (20285ft)
 

1.   Joint Indo-Kyrgyz Army Mountaineering Expedition 2016 to Mt Jogin III (20285 ft) was conducted wef 30 Aug-25 Sep 2016 in Harsil sector of Garhwal Himalaya (UK). 23 member team which included nine members from Kyrgyz Army successfully completed the expedition within the stipulated timeframe and returned safely on its completion.

2.   The team was Flagged Off by Lieutenant General AL Chavan, AVSM, SM, VSM, Director General of Military Training on 31 Aug 2016 from New Delhi. The team led by Major SK Thapa of Indian Army took the challenging task of carrying out the prestigious Joint Army Expedition along with selected mountaineers of Indian and Kyrgyz Army. The team experienced many challenges en-route, but the sheer determination of the valiant climbers and the cohesive team effort brought laurels to both the nation when nineteen team members including seven from the Kyrgyz Army, reached the top on 15 Sep and 16 Sep 2016.

3.   Mt Jogin III is located South of Gangotri in Garhwal Himalayas. The Jogin Massif comprises of three peaks: Mt Jogin I (21210 ft), Mt Jogin II (20810 ft) and Mt Jogin III (20285 ft). Mt Thalaysagar (22783 ft) is also located in the same ridge.

4.   The expedition has cemented the relationship between the two countries and also enhanced the bonhomie and professionalism between the armies. It has also improved the military alliance between India and Kyrgyzstan.
