Army Postal Service - Speed Post

The need for a fast and guaranteed delivery resulted in the emergence of Speed Post in 1986. Speed Post is a service that is flexible enough to handle everything from letters to documents, packages to parcels at very economical rates. Speed Post believes in going that extra mile, as it delivers even at the most remote places, with the support of more than 1,50,000 Post Offices spread all over the country.

Speed Post has been introduced in the Army Postal Service w.e.f. 15 Nov 1994. There are two types of Speed Post Service - Domestic and International. APS provides the service only in the domestic sector.

Unlike conventional mails, Speed Post offers a time bound and guaranteed service to users involving extra costs at very economical competitive Speed Post Tariff . If the deadlines are not met, Speed Post undertakes to refund the fee charged.

Tarrif levied on Speed Post and the transit are calculated taking into account the Speed Post Centres nearest to the booking and delivery point. Department of Posts has a wide network of Speed Post Centres. As on date, there are 290 Speed Post Centres in the country. For transit purpose, both the CBPOs (56 APO and 99 APO) are taken as booking and destination points for Speed Post articles booked/delivered through FPOs.

What can be sent by Speed Post and how?

Book Now Pay Later (BNPL) Scheme:

Speed Post Money Order

Any article containing letters, books, patterns, small packets and parcels can be booked through Speed Post. All articles weighing more than 200g should be presented in open condition or packed in such a way that they can be opened easily, if necessary, for security clearance at the Airport.

The articles should have:

Address of the sender

Address of the addressee with PIN Code of the Post Office of delivery.

Regular users can avail credit facility under the 'Book Now Pay later' scheme. BNPL customers do not have to make spot payments while booking their articles. Speed Post keeps your accounts and you need to pay only on receipt of the bills.

A Speed Post fee of Rs 5.00 is charged in addition to the normal MO Commission, irrespective of the value of the MO. If payment is desired on Sunday or Post Office Holiday Delivery fee of Rs 3.00 is charged additionally.

Speed Post Money Order facility is available for cities connected by the Speed Post network only.
