Official Correspondence
Official letter mail posted at FPOs is deliverable free of postage within India and will be superscribed  " On India Government Service",  'Free on Active Service' and will be franked by originators with the name, rank and official designation (if any) of the despatching officer. 

Correspondence, which is not superscribed or franked by originators will be returned to Post Orderlies for supplying the omission. 

Registration charges are; however, payable on Registered letter mail.

Charges on official articles will also be prepaid in ordinary postage stamps.        

Official correspondence is to be cleared through SDS channels.  However, articles addressed to stations not served by SDS or to addressees not entitled to SDS facilities will be accepted for despatch by FPOs.               
Misuse of Postal Service
Only such correspondence as relates to the Services should be sent through SDS.  The remaining official correspondence should be sent on Postal Service.  The following categories of correspondence pertaining to postal matters only, will be sent by Postal Service, registered Post: -  
(a)   Correspondence having enclosures which cannot be replaced.

(b)   Correspondence, the registration of which is obligatory such as classified
       correspondence.
