Introduction
Express Parcel Post , a premium product of the Department of Posts was launched in the civil Circles during 1999.

The service ensures a time bound delivery of mercantile articles weighing normally more than the normal letter mail on payment of a specified fee structure based on the weight of each article seperately for local and outside destinations.
Salient features of the service
The salient features of the service and the operational guide lines are enumerated below ;-
Express  Parcel Post Contents ; Any item may be sent as Express Parcel Post except articles, the transmission of which is prohibited under Rule 19 , 19A and 20 Indian Post Act 1898.

Weight and Size : The express Parcel Post shall not exceed 1.50 mtrs of any one dimension and three meters of length and the grith together. The maximum weight limit is 35 Kgs.

Registration: EPP is a distinct product as compared to Registered Parcels. Registration shall not be ogligatory in respect of EPP.

Tariff; The current tariff for EPP is as under :-

 Up to 500 km Rs 40/- Rs 5/- Rs 4/-
 501-1000 km Rs 50/- Rs 10/- Rs 8/-
 1001-2000 km Rs 60/- Rs 20/- Rs 15/-
 Above 2000 km Rs 80/- Rs 25/- Rs 20/-
Booking
Articles meant for booking by Express Parcel Post should be securely packed to withstand the transit up to the destinations. The packing materials used should be of good quality.

The Post Orderly who presents the article for booking should ensure that the column meant for "Speed Post Charge" and "Receipt No" are correctly entered by the FPO staff, receipts thereof are received from the FPO, date stamp of the FPO is affixed in the booking list and the list is signed by the FPO staff.

The minimum tariff rate for booking EPP shall be for 3 Kgs and the maximum weight shall be 35 Kgs. but no weight limit for some Air Force Unit/Stations.
